Sunshine's February Update

Well, I can hardly believe that so much time has passed since my last update! Where does the time go? I am here in Louisville, KY, and I am happy to be home for a few months. I was home for the busy holiday season, but I just didn't have enough time to do all the things that needed to be done! Here I am with the rest of the G.O. Girls!

This month I had the opportunity to experience for the first time a baseball camp for the kids in our community of Hoya del Caimito. We had a baseball team from Kansas City Baptist Temple Church come and spend a week with us. We had a wonderful time. Baseball is the first love of most boys and men in the Dominican Republic and it was great to see the kids in the community having so much fun, and as always watching these teams come and having their lives impacted and changed forever. The camps really are a awesome experience for the kids. They begin every morning having chapel and a sharing time. During the day, the visiting team works with them on how to improve their game and sporting techniques. At night, we would go to baseball games and watch the American teams play some of the local Dominican teams. After the games, the two opposing teams have a time of sharing their testimonies of how God has impacted their lives on the field. The last day of camp the American teams will go to the kids houses and share with them about the love of Christ and extend an invitation to receive Him. This is a great time for the Americans to spend personal time with the kids they coached throughout the week and meet their parents. The week is capped off by an awards ceremony. The place is packed with happy kids and proud parents! It's a great time!

While I am home, I will working at the G.O. Ministries offices. I have a lot to accomplish while I am here. My main focus is to raise more support! I have a lot of great projects that I want to begin working with, but I need to raise my ministry money before I return to the D.R. this summer to get them started! I want to teach nutrition and wellness classes to women, provide wellness checks to babies, and teach fun health classes for the kids. This summer I will be facilitating teams on the field. I am so excited about the impact our ministry will have on the visiting Americans teams, and on the many lives in the community we will be able to minister to through these medical clinics. It continues to be such a blessing for me to see how the medical outreach impacts the poor communities it serves.

I also wanted to remind everyone about Derby! We still need many more volunteers. This will be a fun day, a great way to raise money to support pastors in the D.R. and Haiti and best of all you get to visit with me! :) I have included the GO Derby website under my links. Check it out! You can email me or contact Jeff Rogers directly from the Go Derby website. I hope to see a lot of you all there!

Praise Reports!

  • My grandfather is still cancer free! He just had his check up and he is doing great!
  • I have transportation while I am home thanks to my sister!
  • Thank you Father for all the little requests that I lift up to you that you have answered for me while I have been home!

Prayer Requests

  • That God would protect all the missionaries on the field everywhere.
  • That the Holy Spirit would go before me as I continue to raise the support I need for my budget this year.
  • As I continue on this journey, that I would always lean on His understanding, and continue to seek His guidance for my life.

Thank you all for your prayers, and your faithful financial support! You all make this possible! Thank you so much for joining me in this journey! You are not only a blessing to me, but to the pastors and families in the D.R. and to Haiti!!

Mucho paz en Cristo!
